A lovely quite understated little shiraz rug from the zagros mountains in south west iran.  the name of the rug is known as an australian wine as the regions vines were sent to Australia and produce the lovely red wine we know today.

This rugt is small, was it a training piece for a young new weaver to learn the motifs and tension or was it simply woven with a time restriction knowing the tribe was soo n to migrate or was it simply made for their own personal use. This is the great thing about tribal rugs we never quite know their intention.

Here the traditional tribal motifs of  stylised animals, plants and trees fill the surrounding field of this double medallion rug. A warm rich almost orange tone abrash at the top and a line almost an inch wide sit against the cooler coffee and stone tones with the deep indigo and ivory giving it depth.

This would happily survive in a medium to heavy traffic area.
