Antique Qashqai 148 x 125
A humble rug with some of my favourite details including the colour palate going down the outside of the central medallion which is simply drawn and almost holds what could be transcribed as 3 medallions going through the centre with the stylised scarab as the main feature and the 4 large scale traditional Qashqai stylised flowers flanking each corner.
The main field in madder and the corner field in indigo are full of stylised floral and plant motifs. The Qashqai weave as they see. The largest and most colourful tribe of Iran these are the only region where some of them still migrate.
Woven on a woollen foundation (warp and weft) is the change in warp tones a conscious guide to the layout of the rug or just pure coincidence? Great natural dyes where the colours sit as comfortably as a bunch of flowers as a chemical dye vies for one’s attention. A great little rug easy to place in any home.
