Afghan Ersari Kilim Bag Fragment
A traditional bold design from the Ersari tribe one of the major ones of the Turkmen people in Central Asia, mainly based in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Turkmenistan.
Historically madder and indigo are still to this day the main base colours to any of their traditional rugs and kilims or flat weaves. This is due to the fact that these 2 dyes are considered cheap to produce. At times it is said the people weave the colours around them and with a long history for the region having been at war this could potentially make sense.
The bold scale of the design and strong large scale use of the gold (saffron dye) and fineness of the weave shows this weaver was skilled due to the movement (as seen exceptionally along the top with the squares ) and considered rich due to the colours and dyes used.
Will be a stunning addition to any home.
