Persian Belouch Soffreh or Bread making cloth
A Persian Belouh bread making cloth. The soffrehs when square in format were used to knead the dough for the naan on, as in the desert they're not renowned for their clean worktops and often in pre-1900 soffreh the dough can be seen ingrained in the reverse. The hot red was used predominantly in the early 1900s. Often in the soffreh the central camel colour was made from camel wool but in more recent times this has been replaced with dyed camel coloured wool.
