Kurdish Rug 243 x 116cm
A wonderfully hard-wearing rug on a woollen foundation. Made in the days before standardisation of size this would have been woven potentially for either the weaver or a local due to its irregularity on scale and movement in shape.
A wonderful early example of early chemical dyes with the fuchsine dyes which oxidises over time from bright purple to an onion skin tone. The main rose-coloured field has a wonderful movement with the zig zag design encasing stylised flowers. The main border and guard border lift the rug being in an ivory and pale green colour. Nicely drawn with clean shapes this makes for an easy rug to live with.
