Heriz Ahar 400 x 280cm
Origin: North West Asia
Circa: Last Quarter of 20th Century
Size: 400 x 280cm
Woven in North West Iran these are thought to be some of the most durable rugs in production due to the high copper content in the soil. This makes the wool tough, full of luster and signs the more it is used. The Ahar unlike traditional Heriz is similar in format to the large-scale medallion, and large open corner spandrels but tends to be more curvilinear in execution.
This rug is a beautiful example with the medallion quite desirable in its soft lines drawing the petals of the main floral bud which continue to flow throughout the main field.
The large bold floral main border is bursting with blossom and makes this piece a stunning feature in any room
