Chinese Silk 121 x 79cm - Sold
A Chinese copy of a traditional Persian design with the arched mehrab (archway) . The pillars either side have a deer sat on the top which is thought to symbolise spiritual authority and regeneration.
The design is full all over of birds flowers and leaves and could be thought to represent life and nature bursting out the vase at the bottom. The main border continues this format while the outer guard border is technically very competent weaving with a flat weave and raised knotted flowers.
Known to be Chinese due to how this rug moves a great copy, in decorative colours.
