A fine piece from the Hamadan region of North East Iran. The hot tomato red helps age the rug which pops sympathetically against the dark indigo field.
Expensive to produce in its day with a large quantity of green and gold throughout. The Boteh design is held in an almost bud plant-like motif which then holds other stylised flowers within and floating around between each boteh.
A simple repeat but never quite the same throughout. A lovely lively number.
