THE PROCESS
Cleaning is vital in prolonging the life of any rug or carpet. Any fibre absorbs dirt and grime from the atmosphere, which over time will affect the colours and strength of the piece.
The damaged areas are tacked onto a gauze mesh to prevent the damage spreading. It is then beaten on a grid to enable the dirt to loosen and fall out.
Next a colour test run is carried out over various parts to the piece, as it may be fast in one area but not another. The pH value of the water is adjusted according to the dye quality. Stains are removed only by using natural materials where possible, either by full immersion or a gentle surface clean with mild detergent and horse-hair brush.
